Revelation
"Blessed are those who do His commandments"
Text: Revelation 22:14
A SPECIAL BLESSING PRONOUNCED
It is always uplifting to read about the Lord’s promise of blessings. The heart is uplifted and moved to keep the commandments of the Lord.
“Blessed are those who do His commandments,
that they may have the right to the tree of life,
and may enter through the gates into the city.
But outside are dogs and sorcerers and
sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters,
and whoever loves and practices a lie.”
Revelation 22:14-15
1. A glorious word of encouragement.
a) To be among “the blessed”.
b) There is a special blessing that is given to those who keep God’s Law.
2. We remember the words of the Psalmist in his observations of those who are blessed.
“Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.”
Psalm 119:1-3
3. Two special blessings highlighted:
a) They have access to the tree of life.
i) What a privilege this is!
ii) To be able to partake of the tree of life freely.
b) They have access through the gates into the Holy City.
i) This right is not to be taken for granted.
ii) It is a privileged to be treasured.
4. Those who will be excluded.
a) They are people on the outside.
b) They are compared to wild scavenger dogs.
c) Some are sorcerers who indulge in the occult.
d) Still others are sexually immoral.
e) The murderers who are unrepentant are excluded.
f) Idolatrous people are those who reject God in preference to idolatry.
g) Those who love lying and speaking words of falsehood!
