"The Lamb is its light"

Text: Revelation 21:23

SOME SURPRISING FEATURES

The new Holy City had many surprising features. It was a very large city. It was shaped like a cube with equal proportions for its length and breadth. There were other surprising features:

“But I saw no temple in it,
for the Lord God Almighty
and the Lamb are its temple.
The city had no need of
the sun or of the moon to shine in it,
for the glory of God illuminated it.
The Lamb is its light.
And the nations of those who are saved
shall walk in its light,
and the kings of the earth
bring their glory and honour into it.”
Revelation 21:22-24

1. What the New City would not have.

a) It would not have a Temple.

b) The sun would not be needed in the day.

c) The moon would also not be needed in the night.

d) This is all consistent with the new heavens and the new earth God had planned.

2. What would take the place of the Luminaries?

a) The Temple.

i) The Father’s Presence would be found in the New City.

ii) The Lamb Himself would also be found in the Temple.

iii) Together they would provide all the light that is needed.

b) This is a profound concept.

i) The finite human mind cannot comprehend it fully.

ii) We will have to wait for the Day when we would be there to see the New Jerusalem.

3. The nations of the world.

a) Those who are saved will see the glorious splendour of the New Jerusalem.

b) The saints of God will be allowed to inhabit the City.

c) The rulers of the nations in he world will add glory to the Temple of God.

d) The rulers of large nations would sing the praise of God.
