"The city is laid out as a square"

Text: Revelation 21:16

THE SIZE OF THE HOLY CITY

The guiding angel helped John to understand and to appreciate the Holy City. This great city of God would radiate with divine excellence of glory!

“The city is laid out as a square;
its length is as great as its breadth.
And he measured the city with the reed:
twelve thousand furlongs.
Its length, breadth, and height are equal.
Then he measured its wall:
one hundred and forty-four cubits,
according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.
The construction of its wall was of jasper;
and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.
The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned
with all kinds of precious stones:
the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire,
the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius,
the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl,
the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase,
the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls:
each individual gate was of one pearl.
And the street of the city was pure gold,
like transparent glass.”
Revelation 21:16-21

1. The shape of the city.

a) It was a perfect square.

b) The length and the breadth were measured carefully with a golden reed.

2. The size of the Holy City.

a) It would be 12,000 furlongs.

b) It is about 2400 sq. km.

c) This would make it a very large city.

d) The height, the length and the breadth are equal in size.

e) This would make the city like a cube.

3. A description of the Holy City.

a) The wall was made of Jasper.

b) The city was made of pure gold.

c) The foundations were made of 12 precious stones.

d) Each gate was made of a single pearl.

e) The street was made of pure gold like transparent glass.

The Holy City would be magnificent and full of glory and splendour!
