"The supper of the great God"

Text: Revelation 19:17

AN UNUSUAL INVITATION

An angel gave an unusual invitation to all the birds which feed on carrion meat. These are called scavenger birds and they include the vultures and the crows.

“Then I saw an angel standing in the sun;
and he cried with a loud voice,
saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven,
‘Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,
that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains,
the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses
and of those who sit on them,
and the flesh of all people,
free and slave, both small and great.'”
Revelation 19:17-18

1. An invitation to a great carrion feast.

a) The angel was described as “standing in the sun”.

b) This was not an invitation given in secret.

c) This was an open invitation.

d) He gave this invitation “with a loud voice”.

2. The details of this Invitation.

a) It was to all carrion birds.

b) These feed on decaying dead animals.

c) This was a special supper given by God to all these scavenger birds.

3. The flesh of the wicked who would be killed at Armageddon.

a) The flesh of kings.

b) The flesh of captains.

c) The flesh of mighty men.

d) The flesh of horses and of those who sit on them.

e) “And the flesh of all people”

i) Free and slave.

ii) Both small and great.

4. Victory at Armageddon.

Victory over the enemies of God was absolutely assured.
