"Called in Hebrew, Armageddon"

Text: Revelation 16:16

THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON

The three demonic spirits would stir up all the nations of the world. This battle is unusual. This war is not one nation going to war against another nation. This war is the World of Nations taking up arms to battle God Himself!

“‘Behold, I am coming as a thief.
Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments,
lest he walk naked and they see his shame.’
And they gathered them together
to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.”
Revelation 16:15-16

1. The word “Armageddon”.

a) It is a transliteration.

b) It means “The mountain of Megiddo”.

2. But Megiddo is actually a valley.

a) Armageddon would therefore include the Mountain.

b) And the regular valley of Megiddo.

3. Megiddo was a battle ground.

a) In ancient days.

b) Also in the Middle Ages.

c) More than 100 wars have been recorded in history involving Megiddo.

4. A special word of exhortation from the Lord to believers.

a) The Lord is returning for His people.

b) But His return is as a thief in the night.

i) He will come quietly.

ii) No one would know when He is coming.

iii) Hence, His return is compared to “a thief in the night”.

c) A word of encouragement.

i) The believer must be vigilant and watchful.

ii) He must be clothed in righteous garments.

iii) To be without righteous garments is compared to being naked.

iv) The believer must seek to live in righteousness at all times while waiting for the Lord’s return.
