"The court which is outside the temple"

Text: Revelation 11:2

MEASUREMENT OF THE TEMPLE GROUNDS

This is usually done when a Temple project is going to take place. Obviously, there was already an existing Temple. John was instructed not to measure the Court outside the Temple.

“But leave out the court which is outside the temple,
and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles.
And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.”
Revelation 11:2

1. The Razing of the Temple in AD 70.

a) The Romans were so furious they left no stone unturned.

b) The foundations of the 2nd Temple was completely gone.

2. Modern Studies concerning the actual Temple site.

a) The actual Temple site appears to be different from the Dome of the Rock.

b) The present mosque may thus be considered “the court that is outside the Temple”.

3. John was instructed not to measure this court.

a) This Court is not part of the Temple.

b) This had been given to the Gentiles.

4. Anticipation of War.

a) John understood what the Lord was saying to him.

b) There would be War that would involve the Holy City.

c) The Temple and its grounds would be assailed.

5. The triumph of the enemies over the Temple.

a) This is NOT the Millennial Temple.

b) This is a Temple yet to be built.

c) In any battle, lives would be lost and great ravage to the country.

6. The Length of this war.

a) It would last 42 months.

b) This is about 3.5 years.

c) The holy city would be trampled underfoot by the enemies.

d) This was grim news to comprehend.
