“They kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them.” Psalm 99:7b

WHAT GOD LOOKS FOR IN SERVANTS

God certainly deserves to have the best of people to serve Him. Yet the fact is that all His servants are but weak human vessels. What would God look for in His servants?

“He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar;
They kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them.”
Psalm 99:7

1. “The cloudy pillar”

a) This is a reference to the pillar of cloud that went before the children of Israel (Exodus 14:19).
i) It was a pillar of light to Israel (Exodus 14:20).
ii) It was a pillar of darkness to their enemies (Exodus 14:20).
b) It represented the presence of the LORD.
i) It is to be noted that the Angel of the Lord was associated with the cloudy pillar (Exodus 14:19a).
ii) The pre-incarnate Christ had always been with Israel.
c) God spoke to them in the cloudy pillar.
i) To all the children of Israel.
ii) To Moses in particular.

2. “They kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them”

a) God’s law described.
i) Testimonies
ii) Ordinance
b) Appropriate response to God’s law.
i) They kept the laws of God faithfully.
ii) They taught the children of Israel to keep His laws.
iii) The high regard for God’s laws is what endears servants to Him.
