Day 64 – Psalm 97

“Zion hears and is glad…” Psalm 97:8a

RELATING TO THE LORD

The psalmist’s context was essentially with reference to Israel. Travelling to other parts of the world was not the privilege of people who lived in the days of the psalmist. Nevertheless he noted two groups of people and the two different ways in which they related to God.

“Let all be put to shame who serve carved images,
Who boast of idols.
Worship Him, all you gods.
Zion hears and is glad,
And the daughters of Judah rejoice
Because of Your judgments, O LORD.
For You, LORD, are most high above all the earth;
You are exalted far above all gods.”
Psalm 97:7-9

1. Those who reject God

a) They prefer to boast of idols.
b) They serve these carved images.
c) At the Presence of God they shall be ashamed.

2. Those who believe in God and worship Him

a) These dwell in Zion.
b) These are symbolically and beautifully described as “daughters of Judah”.
c) They rejoice in their faith in God

3. The Being of God

i) They are characterized by righteousness.
ii) They are full of justice.
b) The LORD is truly God Most High.

All ought to offer Him worship!
