“His seed shall endure forever…” Psalm 89:36a

A WONDERFUL MESSIANIC TEXT

What did God have in mind when He gave the Davidic covenant? In God’s profound wisdom, He had the Messiah in mind.

“His seed shall endure forever,
And his throne as the sun before Me.”
Psalm 89:36

1. “His seed”

a) Once again we come across this special word “seed”.
b) This word appeared in Psalm 89:29a.

2. Reading the two verses together

a) Though the two verses are separate.
b) They make perfect sense when they are put together.
i) Both make reference to “His seed”.
ii) Both make reference to “His throne”.

3. The “Seed” is distinguished from “his sons” (Psalm 89:30a)

a) “His Seed” would be Messianic.
b) “His sons” would be the early kings who are non-Messianic descendants of King David.

4. The throne of the Messiah

a) His is an eternal throne.
b) His reign would last for all eternity.
c) Description of the eternal throne of the royal Messianic Seed:-
i) “And his throne as the days of heaven” Psalm 89:29b
ii) “And his throne as the sun before Me” Psalm 89:36b

THE PROPHETIC WORD OF MICAH

God promised that He would raise up a Ruler from Bethlehem Ephrathah. This Messianic Ruler had eternal origins (Micah 5:2).
