“Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him…” Psalm 89:33a

THE GRACIOUSNESS OF GOD

Chastening is never easy to endure! One of the important things to bear in mind when we are chastened by the Lord is this precious promise of God.

“Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him,
Nor allow My faithfulness to fail.”
Psalm 89:33

1. “Nevertheless”

a) This word introduces a special word of comfort.
b) Great encouragement may be derived from an understanding of this promise.

2. Two precious promises are in mind

a) God’s lovingkindness
b) God’s faithfulness
c) They are inseparable concepts

3. “My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him”

a) The rod may be applied.
b) Stripes may be laid.
c) But God’s lovingkindness will still prevail.
d) His lovingkindness will never be taken away completely.

4. “Nor allow My faithfulness to fail”

a) God’s faithfulness is to be treasured (Psalm 89:1b, 2b, 5b).
b) His faithfulness is an established fact (Psalm 89:2b).
c) This faithfulness will never fail.
d) God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness are wondrous promises to fall back on.

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

God’s faithfulness and lovingkindness are not to be taken for granted! They must certainly not be abused. We are to stand in awe of such a great and gracious God (Psalm 89:5-7).
