Day 342 – Psalm 89

“Also I will make him My firstborn…” Psalm 89:27a

GREAT HONOUR PLANNED

God had great plans for His servant, King David. The following reveals the honour God planned for David.

“Also I will make him My firstborn,
The highest of the kings of the earth.”
Psalm 89:27

1. “Also”

a) This is correctly noted.
b) This latest promise of blessing was not the first.
c) God had already promised many wonderful things to David!

2. “I will make him My firstborn”

a) David was not the firstborn in his family.
b) He was in fact the youngest among his siblings.
c) He was also not the first king of Israel.
d) But he would enjoy the status of one who is “firstborn”.
i) He would be the first of the Davidic dynasty.
ii) He would be praised as the mightiest king Israel ever had.
iii) His walk with God would be the benchmark for future kings (2 Chronicles 7:17).

3. “The highest of the kings of the earth”

a) David would not just stand out among the kings of Israel.
b) He would stand out among all other earthly kings.
c) This would be great honour indeed.

REASONS FOR SUCH BLESSINGS

Why would God bless so greatly? Two important reasons may be highlighted:-

1. Because God is faithful and merciful in the keeping of His covenant (Psalm 89:1-4).

2. Because David walked humbly before the Lord he declared as his God (Psalm 89:26).
