Day 339 – Psalm 89

“But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him…” Psalm 89:24a

VITAL WORDS

God gave promise after promise to David. The following text is most precious.

“But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him,
And in My name his horn shall be exalted.”
Psalm 89:24

1. “My faithfulness”

a) God pledged that He would be faithful to David.
b) He would stand by every word of promise He made to David.
c) His faithfulness would guarantee the fulfillment of His many promises.

2. “My mercy”

a) God knew that David was but a man.
b) There would be struggles with sin-problems.
c) But He would always grant mercy.

3. “And in My name his horn shall be exalted”

a) Horn
i) This is a reference to the power that David would possess as king.
ii) His kingdom would become a strong one.
iii) His power (horn) would be exalted.
iv) God would see to that.
b) God’s name would be at stake
i) His name would be adversely affected if David failed.
ii) His name would uphold David in all his endeavours.
iii) His name would be glorified in David’s success as a mighty king in Israel.
iv) God was unafraid to associate His name with His work in establishing the kingdom of David.
