Day 309 – Psalm 88

“Shall Your wonders be known in the dark?” Psalm 88:12a

A SERIES OF QUESTIONS

Heman had a series of questions that he felt he needed to express to God. The last 2 questions were raised up in the following text.

“Shall Your wonders be known in the dark?
And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?”
Psalm 88:12

1. Why so many questions?

a) Because these thoughts about death bothered Heman.
b) Because he needed some answers.
c) Because he was feeling deep distress at the thought of imminent and untimely death.

2. Two more names for the abode of the dead:-

a) The dark
b) The land of forgetfulness
i) Everything seems forgotten.
ii) Nothing is remembered in the grave.

3. The wonders of God

a) They deserved to be made known to the living.
b) Life ought to be spared so that the wonders of God may be made known.
c) Heman was deeply committed to his task of singing for the Lord.
i) He would sing about the wonders of God.
ii) He would inspire faith in God through his ministry.

4. “And Your righteousness”

a) God’s righteousness ought to be proclaimed.
b) Heman and other faithful servants of God were committed to proclaiming His righteousness.
c) Would God not spare His servants from untimely death so that they could minister for Him?
