Day 289 – Psalm 87

“O city of God!” Psalm 87:3b

GREAT ADORATION OF THE CITY OF GOD

The sons of Korah developed a great love for the city of God, Zion. Their love for Zion moved them to write this special song of love about the holy city.

“Glorious things are spoken of you,
O city of God!”
Psalm 87:3

1. “Glorious things are spoken of you”

a) Those who loved Zion had only glorious words when they spoke of the city.
b) Everything about Zion was glorious in the sight of those who were enamoured of it.

2. “O city of God”

a) Jerusalem was called “Zion”.
b) It was also called “the city of God”.

GLORIOUS THINGS

The sons of Korah were not the only ones who could speak “glorious things” of Zion. Let us consider the affectionate things others wrote about Zion.

1. Asaph (Psalm 48)

a) Asaph agreed that Zion was “the city of (our) God” (Psalm 48:8c).
b) It was “beautiful in elevation” (Psalm 48:2a).
c) It was “the joy of the whole earth” (Psalm 48:2b).
d) It was “the city of the great King” (Psalm 48:2d).
e) God was “in her palaces” (Psalm 48:3a).
f) God was its “refuge” (Psalm 48:3b).

2. King David (Psalm 65)

a) The holy temple was God’s house (Psalm 65:4d).
b) At Zion, praise would always be offered to God (Psalm 65:1).
c) God would hear and answer prayers to all who sought Him at His temple (Psalm 65:2-3).
