Day 266 – Psalm 85

“Mercy and truth have met together…” Psalm 85:10a

THE GLORY OF THE LORD

The sons of Korah employed an intriguing phrase that needs further attention. They wrote,

“That glory may dwell in our land.”
Psalm 85:9b

The manifestation of the glory of God in times past was actually visible.

1. It was in the fire that surrounded the camp of the children of Israel by night.

2. It was in the cloud that hovered over the children of Israel by day.

3. The Lord descended in glory on Mount Sinai when He addressed Israel (Exodus 19).

OTHER ASPECTS OF THE GLORY OF THE LORD

What other aspects of glory did the sons of Korah have in mind? Let us ponder the following text.

“Mercy and truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed.”
Psalm 85:10

1. Four wonderful virtues that especially reflect the glory of God:-

a) Mercy
b) Truth
c) Righteousness
d) Peace

2. These should be the practical ramifications of God’s salvation granted to His saints.

a) Mercy from God reflected in mercy shown to others.
b) Truth from God would be communicated (e.g. by the sons of Korah).
c) Righteousness imputed by God should manifest itself in practical uprightness.
d) Peace from God should be reflected in the pursuit of peace on earth.

3. Four missing jewels:-

a) These were jewels that were missing in the land of Israel for a long time.
b) These must be recovered and displayed in all their glory.
