Day 241 – Psalm 84

“My soul longs, yes, even faints…” Psalm 84:2a

A DEEP AFFECTION FOR GOD’S HOUSE

The sons of Korah had humble duties assigned to them in the Tabernacle in comparison to the Aaronic priesthood. Nevertheless they cultivated a deep sense of affection for the house of the Lord.

“My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”
Psalm 84:2

1. Three beautiful expressions employed

a) My soul
b) My heart
c) My flesh

2. What these represent

a) The whole being.
b) This resonates with the Mosaic command to love the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:5). Israel was challenged to learn how to love the Lord:-
i) With all the heart
ii) With all the soul
iii) With all the strength

3. The focus of this love

a) For the living God
b) For the courts of the LORD
i) The Inner sanctum was accessed only by the priests.
ii) The sons of Korah helped to care for the holy artifacts but were not allowed to touch them.
iii) Their access was virtually confined to the courts of the LORD.
iv) To these devoted sons of Korah, to have access to the courts of the Lord was good enough.

Such was their deep and genuine love for the Lord and His tabernacle!
