“How lovely is Your tabernacle…” Psalm 84:1a

SUPERSCRIPTION:

To the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

THE SONS OF KORAH

It would be helpful to have some basic information about the sons of Korah. They were Levites.

1. The Aaronic priesthood

Aaron and his sons would form the priesthood (Numbers 3:1-3).

2. The Levites

God consecrated the Levites to assist the priests in all their duties (Numbers 3:5-13).

3. Levi and his three sons (Numbers 3:17-20)

Levi had three sons. Each son headed a family group of Levites. The names of the heads of these Levitical families:-

a) Gershon
b) Kohath
c) Merari

4. The sons of Korah (Numbers 16)

a) Korah was described as the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi.
b) Some of the sons of Korah joined up with a group of rebels who challenged the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
c) They were severely dealt with by God for their wicked rebellion.
i) The rebels perished by an act of God.
ii) The Lord opened up the earth and swallowed up these rebels (Numbers 16:28-33).
