THE SILENCE OF GOD

In this psalm, Asaph makes a very strong imprecatory appeal to God. He begins his psalm with a vigorous appeal to God not to remain silent.

“Do not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!”
Psalm 83:1

1. “Do not keep silent, O God”

a) Asaph had struggled with the silence of God before.
b) He struggles with God’s silence again.
c) He pleads with God to respond to his prayer… and not to remain silent.

2. “Do not hold Your peace”

a) In this context the silence of God was “literal”.
b) God seemed to have held His peace.

3. “And do not be still, O God”

a) God’s lack of response was unnerving.
b) He could not fathom why God seemed to be so still.
c) He pleaded with God to respond to his cries.
i) To interact… at the very least.
ii) To be proactive… if He would.
