Day 207 – Psalm 81

“I am the LORD your God…” Psalm 81:10a

RE-ESTABLISHING BASIC PRINCIPLES

Asaph had asked God to hear his prayer. This prayer was being answered. However, the focus was not deliverance, but the re-establishing of basic principles.

“I am the LORD your God,
Who brought you out of the land of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”
Psalm 81:10

1. “I am the LORD your God”

a) This declaration was the most fundamental of truth-principles.
b) God emphasized this time and time again.
c) This was the very First Commandment in the Decalogue (Exodus 20:2).

2. “Who brought you out of the land of Egypt”

a) The children of Israel had been enslaved for many years by the Egyptians.
b) Only by the mighty hand of God could Israel have been delivered from bondage.
c) This historic act of deliverance must never be forgotten.

3. “Open your mouth wide”

a) This is an open invitation to pray to God boldly.
b) But the children of Israel must first deal with existing problems.
i) Idolatry
ii) Repentance from all the sins that had entrapped the people.
iii) Returning to the first principles of faith in God.

4. “I will fill it”

a) This is a wonderful word of comfort and assurance.
b) God will hear their cries of repentance.
c) He knows their needs. He will meet all their needs!
