Day 205 – Psalm 81

“Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you!” Psalm 81:8a

AMONG MANY WONDROUS THINGS

God demonstrated His awesome powers to the children of Israel over and over again. One of the most wondrous experiences must have been to hear God speaking to His people directly.

“Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you!
O Israel, if you will listen to Me!”
Psalm 81:8

1. “Hear, O My people”

a) God had spoken to His people directly when He appeared to them at Mount Sinai.
b) Moses deliberately wrote on this matter in the following text:-

“Did any people ever hear the voice of God
speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have
heard, and live?”
Deuteronomy 4:33

“Out of heaven He let you hear His voice,
that He might instruct you; on earth,
He showed you His great fire, and you
heard His words out of the midst of the fire.”
Deuteronomy 4:36

2. “And I will admonish you”

a) God sought to teach His people.
b) He sought to give them holy and divine instruction.

3. “O Israel, if you will listen to Me”

a) The hint is unmistakable.
i) Israel did not know how to appreciate God speaking to them.
ii) The children of Israel were not interested in listening to God.
b) The significance of God speaking to His people was all but lost completely.

ASAPH’S PRAYER TO GOD

Why had not God immediately answer Asaph? Why had He not responded to the cries of the troubled nation? The answer becomes quite obvious.

1. The children of Israel did not care very much about listening to the voice of God.

2. The nation was just concerned about being delivered out of their troubles.
