Day 169 – Psalm 79

“Their blood they have shed like water…” Psalm 79:3a

FURTHER GRIEF

The more Asaph contemplated on the destruction and death that came upon Jerusalem, the more he grieved.

“Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem,
And there was no one to bury them.”
Psalm 79:3

1. “Their blood they have shed like water”

a) Water was precious in the ancient days.
b) Water was not easily available.
c) Water was precious but blood was surely of greater significance than mere water!
d) The wicked did not care about the blood they spilt.
e) They had little regard for water and they had just as little regard to the blood they shed.

2. “All around Jerusalem”

a) No one was spared.
b) Every corner in Jerusalem saw blood shed.
c) All around Jerusalem people died!

3. “There was no one to bury them”

a) Such was the destruction that took place.
b) There was hardly anybody left to bury the dead.

4. Concern for burial of the dead

a) This was a natural concern.
b) It was of even greater concern for Asaph and the Levites.
i) Burial rites could not be practiced.
ii) There would be “no closure” for the bereaved.
