AN AMAZING GOD REVEALED

An amazing aspect of God’s Character is revealed in this illuminating text.

“But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity,
And did not destroy them.
Yes, many a time He turned His anger away,
And did not stir up all His wrath.”
Psalm 78:38

1. Precious attributes of God

a) Full of compassion.
b) Full of forgiving grace.

2. Practical ramifications

a) Forgiving of all iniquities.
i) Unbelief Psalm 78:22
ii) Rebellion Psalm 78:17
iii) Testing God Psalm 78:18
b) “Did not destroy them”
i) Some were destroyed.
ii) Focal point here is that not all were destroyed.
c) “He turned His anger away”
i) God had every right to be angry with rebellious Israel.
ii) Instead He chose to turn His anger away.
d) “And did not stir up all His wrath”
i) Some wrath was displayed.
ii) The fullness of wrath was never demonstrated.

The attributes of God prevailed over all the iniquities of Israel. Israel had a great and mighty Redeemer indeed!
