“You have with Your arm redeemed Your people…” Psalm 77:15a

REDEMPTION

The entire Bible may be read and understood as displaying the Redemptive Plan of God. The word “redemption” is such a precious doctrine in the Scriptures.

“You have with Your arm redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph.”
Psalm 77:15

The context of this verse is a reference to the time when God delivered Israel out of Egypt.

1. The recipients of this redemption

a) They are called the sons of Jacob.
i) Historical reference: Jacob had twelve sons.
ii) Verse context: A reference to the children of Israel.
iii) Sons of Jacob equals Children of Israel (Israel is the other name for Jacob).
b) The sons of Joseph.
i) They were Manasseh and Ephraim.
ii) These two sons became full-fledged tribes in Israel.

2. Your arm

a) God’s arm is a reference to His mighty power.
b) It took the mighty power of God to force Pharaoh to release the children of Israel from bondage.

3. Redeemed Your people

a) Another word for “redemption” would be “salvation”.
b) God exercised great power with His right hand and brought ten plagues on Egypt.
c) Every single plague unleashed demonstrated His strength and power.
d) The redemption of the people was complete when Pharaoh brought himself to submit to the power of God.
e) These wonders of old were never meant to be forgotten by Israel!
