“I will also meditate on all Your work…” Psalm 77:12a

REMEMBERING AND MEDITATING

In the battle against depressive emotions, the mind must be strongly engaged. The word “remember” informs us that the mind is actively engaged. But more than strong recall is necessary if the battle is to be won decisively.

“I will also meditate on all Your work,
And talk of Your deeds.”
Psalm 77:12

1. “I will also meditate”

a) The first part is “remembering” (Psalm 77:11).
b) The next part is “meditating”.
i) Biblical meditation is not letting the mind go blank.
ii) Biblical meditation is focused on the Lord and His wonderful works.
c) What does meditation do for the individual?
i) It consolidates thought.
ii) It deepens understanding.
iii) It reinforces faith.

2. “On all Your work”

a) This focus must not be lost.
b) God’s work offers an important focal point.
c) Meditating on the work of God does the following:-
i) New life is found.
ii) New strength is also discovered.
iii) Negative feelings are defeated.

3. “Talk of Your deeds”

This is a natural occurrence. The complaining spirit gives way to a refreshed spirit of faith. The significance of the deeds of God is not lost on the person who diligently meditates! There is a wonderful change in the individual. He readily speaks of God and His wonderful deeds.
