“When God arose to judgment…” Psalm 76:9a

QUESTIONS AS TO GOD’S RIGHT TO JUDGE THE WORLD

Some question the right of God to judge the world. The following are their arguments:-

1. They do not feel they need to answer to God.

2. They feel that they are the masters of their own fate.

3. Some are unable to reconcile the idea of a good and loving God judging people.

4. Some even end up rejecting the idea of the existence of God.

THE BIBLICAL ANSWER

Asaph stood his ground when he wrote about why God would rise up to judge.

“When God arose to judgment,
To deliver all the oppressed of the earth.”
Psalm 76:9

1. “The oppressed of the earth”

a) They have hardly any recourse to justice.
b) The wicked are often powerful enough to make human law courts rule in their favour.
c) The oppressed may be found all over the earth.

2. “When God arose to judgment”

a) God will uphold justice.
b) He will not let the oppressed continue to be unfairly victimized.
c) He will exercise His sovereign Divine right to act as Judge.

3. “To deliver all the oppressed”

a) God will deliver the oppressed.
b) He may choose different means to deliver the oppressed.
i) He may use human deliverers.
ii) He may use human judicial systems.
iii) He may employ direct Divine intervention.
