Day 54 – Psalm 75

“I said to the boastful…” Psalm 75:4a

ANOTHER WORD FROM THE LORD

The psalmist’s wait upon the Lord was not in vain. God had heard his prayers and He has given answers.

“I said to the boastful, ‘Do not deal boastfully,’
And to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up the horn.
Do not lift up your horn on high;
Do not speak with a stiff neck.'”
Psalm 75:4-5

a) God had warned the boastful.
i) He could have spoken to their conscience.
ii) He could have spoken through their counselors/advisers.
b) Boasting was nothing but empty arrogance.
The boastful will regret his foolish pride.

2. “And to the wicked”

a) God had also warned the wicked.
b) His word to them was not to abuse their power.
c) The word “horn” symbolized power.

3. Special cautionary words given

a) “Do not lift up your horn on high”
i) This was a reference to employing great power… especially with reference to military might.
ii) God warned the hostile enemies not to engage in warfare.
b) “Do not speak with a stiff neck”
i) Nations with great military might tended to speak arrogantly.
ii) They would boast of their military prowess and their ability to crush people.
iii) They are warned against speaking with arrogant stubbornness (“stiff neck”).
