Day 16 – Psalm 73

“All day long I have been plagued…” Psalm 73:14a

TOUGH EXPERIENCES REVIEWED

It seemed to Asaph that the life of the righteous was much harder than that of the wicked and ungodly.

“For all day long I have been plagued,
And chastened every morning.”
Psalm 73:14

1. “For all day long I have been plagued”

a) All day long
i) This may not be a literal 24 hour day.
ii) But the personal suffering experienced would seem to be “all day long”.
b) I have been plagued
i) The word “plagued” would suggest severe trials in life.
ii) The suffering of the righteous was severe enough to be compared to being plagued!
c) Personal suffering was in mind
i) The use of the first person singular pronoun would suggest that Asaph had personally endured severe suffering.
ii) He might well have been one of the victims of the wicked and ungodly.

2. “And chastened every morning”

a) The night did not end the suffering.
b) The day began with “chastening”.
c) And this chastening was an “every morning” event.
d) It was hard to go through every day with so much hardship and suffering.

This was a very different lifestyle than that of the wicked and ungodly rich!
