“Behold, these are the ungodly…” Psalm 73:12a

A SIGH OF GRIEF

Asaph was upset as he painted a picture of the wicked-rich. He now declares them for what he believed they were.

“Behold, these are the ungodly,
Who are always at ease;
They increase in riches.”
Psalm 73:12

1. “Behold”

a) This is an expression of alarm.
b) It is an expression of puzzlement.

2. “These are the ungodly”

a) These were “the boastful” (Psalm 73:3a).
This phrase describes their way of speaking.
b) They were also called “the wicked” (Psalm 73:3b).
This phrase describes their heart.
c) These are the ungodly (Psalm 73:12a).
This phrase describes their character.

3. “Who are always at ease”

a) They had accumulated much wealth (through ungodly and wicked means).
b) They did not seem to need to work for a living.
c) They seem to enjoy a life of ease.

4. “They increase in riches”

a) Despite all their misdeeds they seemed to increase in wealth.
b) This seems so unfair.
c) How could God allow this state of affairs to carry on?
d) What then would be the point of seeking to be righteous before God?
