“For He will deliver the needy when he cries…” Psalm 72:12a

A COMPASSIONATE KING

What would the Messiah-King be like? We have a glimpse of Him in the following text.

“For He will deliver the needy when he cries,
The poor also, and him who has no helper.”
Psalm 72:12

1. Three groups of people identified

a) The needy.

b) The poor.

c) The one who has no helper.

2. Their plight

a) They are very similar.

b) Their circumstances in life may differ.

c) But all would need “deliverance”.

3. Cries of the poor and needy

a) These are heartfelt cries for help.

b) They are essentially prayers for divine deliverance.

c) Often the needs of the poor and helpless are ignored by earthly kings.

4. Assurance of help from the Messiah-King

a) He will respond to the cries of the poor and needy.

b) He will come to their rescue.

c) He will not neglect them no matter how great His kingdom may be.

d) He will stay committed to delivering the poor and needy.

e) His reign would be marked by compassion for the poor and needy.
