Day 328 – Psalm 71

“And with Your glory all the day.” Psalm 71:8b

THE GLORY OF THE LORD

This was such a powerful theme throughout the Scriptures. The glory of the Lord was revealed brilliantly to Israel. The following may be cited as clear examples:-

1. In the wilderness journey

“You shall see the glory of the LORD…”
Exodus 16:7a

God’s glory was meant to be noted in His gracious provision for Israel.

2. Physical dimension of the Lord’s glory

“Behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.”
Exodus 16:10c

3. On Mount Sinai

“Now the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai…”
Exodus 24:16a

4. At the consecration of the Tabernacle

“And the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle…”
Exodus 40:34b

MISSING THE GLORY OF THE LORD

Sadly, the glory of the Lord was not much in the heart and mind of Israel. Throughout the wilderness journey the following may be noted:-

1. They complained (Exodus 16:2, 8).

2. They refused to keep the commandments of God (Exodus 16:28).

3. They contended (Exodus 17:2).

The above are just the tip of an iceberg. The danger of having a complaining and contending spirit plagued Israel perennially!

THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM

What is the answer to this particular problem? The psalmist’s answer is found in the following text:-

“Let my mouth be filled with Your praise
And with Your glory all the day.”
Psalm 71:8

1. A greater dimension explored

Praise to God to include being fully conscious of the glory of God.

2. All the day

The glory of the Lord should not be allowed to diminish from our hearts and minds. The glory of the Lord’s Being and seen in His works should fill us all the day!
