Day 294 – Psalm 68

“But God will wound the head of His enemies…” Psalm 68:21a

THE ENEMIES OF GOD

Israel had many enemies in the days of King David. But these were not just enemies of the nation of Israel. They were also considered enemies of God.

“But God would wound the head of His enemies,
The hairy scalp of the one who still goes on in his trespasses.”
Psalm 68:21

1. Who were the people who made God their enemy?

Several reasons may be offered:-

a) These were people who hated God (for reasons best known to themselves) {Psalm 68:1c}.
b) These were people known for being wicked (Psalm 68:2b).
c) These were people who were rebellious (Psalm 68:6c, 18c).
d) These were people who fumed with envy (Psalm 68:16a).
e) These were people who continued to trespass (Psalm 68:21b).

2. What God would do to His enemies?

A number of actions would be initiated against the enemies of God:-

a) He would scatter His enemies (Psalm 68:1b, 14).
b) He would cause them to perish (Psalm 68:2b).
c) He would cause the rebellious to experience hardship (Psalm 68:6c).
d) He would defeat all His enemies (Psalm 68:12, 14).
e) He would cause them to pay homage (Psalm 68:18).

3. What is the significance of these actions?

a) God will show Himself to be a Just Judge.
b) He will show Himself as a faithful Covenant God to Israel.
c) He will allow these actions to cause the wicked to turn from their evil ways.
