Psalm 66:8 "Oh, bless our God, you peoples..."

Day 266 – Psalm 66

“Oh, bless our God, you peoples…” Psalm 66:8

A SPECIAL CHALLENGE

The psalmist was quite vigorous in engaging his readers and encouraging them to respond.

“Oh, bless our God, you peoples!
And make the voice of His praise to be heard,
Who keeps our soul among the living,
And does not allow our feet to be moved.”
Psalm 66:8-9

1. “Oh, bless our God, you peoples”

a) The call is to all the people who made up Israel.
b) All twelve tribes would be in mind here.
c) This call would also include all who had come to believe in God (though they may not necessarily been native born).
d) All who have truly known God would have a special sense of motivation to “bless God”.

2. “And make the voice of His praise to be heard”

a) This reference may well be another call to “make a joyful shout” (hence a call to sing loudly).
b) It may also be a challenge to bear witness of faith in God to all who would be open and attentive.

3. “Who keeps our soul among the living”

a) This is a testimony worth sharing.
b) That Israel was still in existence after having suffered so many wars would be a testimony worth sharing.
c) Israel’s survival is testimony of God’s keeping.
d) Whether collectively or individually, the story of being preserved is one that merits telling well.

4. “And does not allow our feet to be moved”

Many were the enemies of Israel that would have loved to annihilate the children of God. But none had ever succeeded in their wicked plans. How did Israel survive while other nations had perished? The psalmist’s answer is that God had not allowed their feet to be moved!
