Day 246 – Psalm 63

“My soul follows close behind You…” Psalm 63:8a

KEEPING CLOSE TO GOD

David was on the run from the soldiers of king Saul. He had to be in the wilderness of Judah if he hoped to evade capture. The circumstances in his life could have caused a person of lesser mettle to collapse. But David had found refuge (“sanctuary”) in God. He now possessed a tremendous spirit of joyous confidence in God. Now that David had caught precious truths about God, he determined that he would keep close to Him.

“My soul follows close behind You;
Your right hand upholds me.”
Psalm 63:8

1. “My soul follows close behind You”

a) David knew now that God was with him always.
b) He was under the protective wings of God.
c) He may not fully comprehend just why God had allowed him to go through such hard times, but he would exercise faith.
d) He would follow close behind the Lord.
i) Even if it means being in the wilderness.
ii) Even if it means living in constant danger.
iii) Even if he did no fully comprehend God’s full plan for him.
e) David was determined to keep close to the Lord.

2. “Your right hand upholds me”

a) David could feel the Presence of God with him.
b) The following were evidence that God was with him.
i) There was a special sense of consciousness of God’s Presence.
ii) There was a keen sense of waiting upon the Lord.
iii) There was even a powerful sense of joy.
c) God was indeed upholding David.

If God had not been upholding him, he would have already perished.
