Day 238 – Psalm 62

“God has spoken once…” Psalm 62:11a

GOD’S WORD TO MANKIND

David was most mindful of what God had spoken to His people, Israel. This word of God was however not limited in application to Israel. His word has universal application!

“God has spoken once,
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God.
Also to You, O LORD, belongs mercy;
For You render to each one according to his work.”
Psalm 62:11-12

1. “God has spoken”

a) These truths were communicated by God through His servants.
b) These truths were recorded and became “The Scriptures”.

2. “God has spoken once, twice I have heard this”

a) God’s part
He needs only to speak once!
b) Our part
We ought to hear it twice! (This speaks of great effort being expended to understand and appreciate what God has spoken.)

3. Three great truths that must be borne in mind

a) Power belongs to God.
i) Not to wicked oppressors.
ii) Nor to cruel robbers.
b) Mercy belongs to God.
i) All need God’s mercy in life.
ii) Without His mercy we would amount to nothing in life.
c) God will render to each one according to his work.
i) God is the ultimate Judge.
ii) He can either show mercy or mete out firm but fair judgment!
