Day 44 – Psalm 6

“O LORD, for I am weak…” Psalm 6:2a

ADMISSION OF WEAKNESS

We do not know what David did and how he sinned that caused him to be so deeply distressed! However we learn much from the way he approached God in his hour of deep anguish.

“Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak;
O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

My soul also is greatly troubled;
But You, O LORD- how long?”
Psalm 6:2-3

1. Problems (“Danger signs”) were noted

a) General weakness is felt.

“I am weak.” Psalm 6:2a

b) Physical weakness may well be in mind.

“My bones are troubled.” Psalm 6:2b

c) Soul wretchedness is also felt

“My soul also is greatly troubled.” Psalm 6:3a

2. Pleading with the LORD

a) Not to chasten when He is full of anger (Psalm 6:1)
b) For mercy to be shown (Psalm 6:2a)
c) For healing to take place (Psalm 6:2b)

3. Puzzling over God’s response

a) God did not seem to have responded one way or the other.
i) There did not seem to have been any chastening in hot displeasure.
ii) But neither was there any relief given.
b) How long?
i) The silence of God was troubling to David.
ii) Would God deal with David as He did with king Saul? (1 Samuel 28:6 describes God refusing to answer all Saul’s efforts to obtain divine help).
