“I will wait for You…” Psalm 59:9a
ONE MORE LESSON
David was learning much about deep spiritual truths even as he engaged in prayer. There was one more lesson to learn.
“I will wait for You, O You his Strength;
For God is my defence.
My God of mercy shall come to meet me;
God shall let me see my desire on my enemies.”
Psalm 59:9-10
1. “I will wait for You”
a) In David’s sense of desperation and urgency he had not factored in this element.
b) He realized that he must practise waiting on the Lord.
2. Establishing three fundamental truths
a) God was his strength.
b) God was his defence.
c) The Lord was his “God of mercy”.
3. Ramifications of these truths
a) His prayers to God would not be in vain.
b) God would sustain him with strength while he waited for Divine deliverance.
c) God would not fail to defend him from the wicked wiles of the enemies.
d) God would show him mercy in his hour of need.
4. A growing confidence
a) “My God of mercy shall come to meet me”
i) God had not been asleep but had indeed seen his plight.
ii) He would come and meet him.
b) “God shall let me see my desire on my enemies”
David knew that his enemies would be defeated. Their wicked plans would be thwarted. His prayer against his enemies would be answered ultimately.
