“He shall take them away as with a whirlwind…” Psalm 58:9

A FIRM TRUST IN GOD’S JUSTICE

Behind David’s imprecatory prayer effort was his firm belief in God’s justice!

“Before your pots can feel the burning thorns,
He shall take them away as with a whirlwind,
As in His living and burning wrath.”
Psalm 58:9

1. The imagery of cooking pots

a) Thorns were used as fuel.
b) It does not take too long before the pots start feeling the burning thorns.
c) Very soon the Lord will judge the wicked.

2. The imagery of whirlwind

a) A whirlwind may be compared to the powerful tornado or hurricane.
b) It is powerful and destructive.
c) God will employ great power to bring the activities of the wicked to a drastic end.

3. As in His living and burning wrath

a) God’s wrath
i) Directed against evil deeds.
ii) Directed against unrepentant evil doers.
iii) It is based on righteous anger.
iv) God’s wrath would be outpoured on those who are bent on doing evil deeds.
b) Living and burning wrath
i) God is not silent.
ii) He is deeply concerned about justice.
iii) He cares about the plight and the suffering of the righteous.
iv) His wrath is living and burning and the wicked will suffer great consequences.
