TRUST IN GOD

The Psalmist David teaches us deep and precious lessons about trusting in God.

“In God (I will praise His word),
In the LORD (I will praise His word).
In God I have put my trust;
I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
Psalm 56:10-11

1. Object of our trust: God, the LORD God

a) In this text alone, David repeated three times the name of God.
b) What could be the possible reasons why he wrote as he did?
c) Let us ponder the following thoughts:-
i) First reference (“In God”) could be a plain basic statement of faith.
ii) Second reference (“In the LORD”) would be a strong reference to the Covenant Name of God that was revealed to Moses (Exodus 6:3-4).
iii) Third reference (“In God”) would be a reaffirmation of faith in the LORD God of Israel.

2. “I will praise His Word”

a) The parenthesis put in is very effective.
b) It serves to suggest the following:-
i) It is suggestive of thoughtfulness.
ii) It is suggestive of source of knowledge and faith.

3. “In God I have put my trust”

a) There is every reason to trust in God.
b) This deep trust in God must dispel whatever fears there may be in the heart.
