“Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.” Psalm 53:6c

MAINTAINING FAITH IN GOD

No matter how bleak the circumstances of life may be, faith in God must be maintained. No matter how strong enemies may be, and how vocal they are when it comes to denying God, strong faith is the answer!

“Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When God brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.”
Psalm 53:6

1. Captivity

a) This word may be used in a general sense.
i) When Israel is defeated by a strong enemy.
ii) When Israel is taken captive and made to serve the enemy.
b) This word in later usage would be used as a reference.
i) To the destruction of Israel (722 BC) and Judah (586 BC).
ii) Israel/Judah were literally led into captivity in foreign lands (diaspora).

2. “Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion”

a) Zion is mentioned because it can play a significant role in Israel’s salvation.
b) If God’s people at Zion would truly seek God in prayer, salvation would come forth to Israel.
c) This was a gentle word of exhortation to all to seek God’s salvation for Israel.

3. “Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad”

a) Jacob and Israel are used interchangeably here.
b) Faith in God can create a powerful sense of joy and gladness in the heart.
c) There is great anticipation of God’s salvation (deliverance) in this text.
