Day 23 – Psalm 44

“You have saved us from our enemies…” Psalm 44:7

THE ENEMIES OF ISRAEL

Israel had many enemies. Two groups of enemies may be highlighted:-

1. An ancient enemy

The Egyptians who enslaved the nation (Exodus 1:1-14)

2. The Canaanites (Genesis 15:19-21; Exodus 3:17; Joshua 12)

3. Special enemies God raised up

a) The Edomites (1 Kings 11:14)
b) The Syrians (1 Kings 11:25).

4. Empires with colonialisation in mind

a) Assyrians (Isaiah 8)
b) Babylonians (Isaiah 13)

THE DELIVERANCE ISRAEL EXPERIENCED

Time and again, the LORD delivered Israel from its many enemies. Thus the following text was absolutely true.

“But You have saved us from our enemies,
And have put to shame those who hated us.”
Psalm 44:7

1. God’s salvation

a) The focus was the deliverance God gave to Israel again and again.
b) Many plots of Israel’s enemies were abortive because God was their Saviour.

2. God’s dealings with wicked enemies

a) They were put to shame.
b) The enemies were usually stronger than Israel.

It was to their shame that they were never able to eliminate Israel as long as God was their LORD!
