VICTORY IN THE NAME OF THE LORD

Many were the battles that Israel had wage before they could settle in the Promised Land. Great was the resistance from the Canaanites. Victory could only be assured if Israel learned how to invoke the name of God in all their battles.

“Through You we will push down our enemies;
Through Your name we will trample those who rise against us.”
Psalm 44:5

1. Enemies who rose up against Israel

a) Resistance must be expected.
b) Israel had many powerful enemies (Joshua 12 lists the names of the enemies Israel defeated).

2. “Through You… Through Your name”

a) God’s name needed to be invoked in prayer.
b) God would uphold His own Name.
i) Because He had tied His name to Israel.
ii) Because His name was invoked in prayer.
c) Great victories are assured; enemies would be soundly defeated.
