Day 326 – Psalm 40

“Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust…” Psalm 40:4a

BLESSED IS THE MAN

This phrase comes up time and again in the Book of Psalms. The concept of “blessings from God” is understandably one of the most natural subjects that appeals to the human heart. The following is a sampling of the mention of blessing in the Book of Psalms.

1. Blessing promised to the righteous (Psalm 1:1, 6; 5:12)

2. Blessing promised to God’s people (Psalm 3:8b; 30:11; 33:12)

3. Blessing of being forgiven (Psalm 32:1)

4. Blessing to those who trust in the Lord (Psalm 34:8b)

BLESSING PROMISED TO THOSE WHO TRUST IN GOD

Once again the psalmist David raised up the subject of being blessed by God. The comment made in the following text must have come from close observation.

“Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust,
And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”
Psalm 40:4

1. “Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust”

a) The blessings of the Lord are well evidenced in life.
b) They come in many forms.
c) But these blessings will come only to those who truly trust the LORD.

2. “And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies”

a) These are two additional but important observations.
b) Knowledge of the Lord would reveal these two important facts:-
i) God disapproves of the proud and He will resist them.
ii) He also disapproves of those who are liars.
c) The person who trusts in the Lord must also be one who rejects the way of the wicked proud, and those who indulge in lying.
