Day 319 – Psalm 39

“My hope is in You…” Psalm 39:7a

CONFESSION OF SIN

David had thought through many things even as he prayed. There was one thing that he knew he must do. He must confess his transgressions to the Lord.

“And now, LORD, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.
Deliver me from all my transgressions;
Do not make me the reproach of the foolish.”
Psalm 39:7-8

1. “And now, LORD, what do I wait for?”

a) The best thing the psalmist David should have done was to “wait on the Lord”.
b) He did not, but decided that he would just keep silent in the presence of the wicked.
c) He now returned to waiting on the Lord.

2. “My hope is in You”

a) Waiting on the Lord always requires “hope”.
b) This hope in the Lord must be established all over again.

3. “Deliver me from all my transgressions”

a) David had to admit his transgressions to the Lord.
b) What were some of these transgressions?
i) Fear of the wicked.
ii) Failure to stand up for truth and justice.
iii) Failure to exercise faith in the Lord’s deliverance.
c) He must now plead for deliverance from his transgressions.

4. “Do not make me the reproach of the foolish”

a) David’s foes could reproach him for he was blameworthy.
b) He would be counted as “one of the foolish!”
