Day 311 – Psalm 38

“Make haste to help me, O LORD, my salvation!” Psalm 38:22

POWERFUL AND WICKED ENEMIES

David was desperately in need of Divine Help. His enemies would surely destroy him unless God intervened and delivered him.

“But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong;
And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied.
Those also who render evil for good.
They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good.”
Psalm 38:19-20

1. Description of enemies

a) Vigorous
b) Strong
c) Multiplied in numbers

2. Reasons for their hatred

a) They are perverse for they render evil for good.
b) They become adversarial because David followed that which was good.

PLEADING WITH THE GOD OF SALVATION

There was one plea left for David to make. He would muster all his faith and plead with the Lord as the God of his salvation.

“Do not forsake me, O LORD;
O my God, be not far from me!
Make haste to help me,
O LORD, my salvation!”
Psalm 38:21-22

1. Crying out to God

David cried out to God with all his might, pleading:-

a) A personal relationship with the Lord as his very personal God.
b) As the Lord of his salvation.

2. Pleading for God not to forsake

Would God forsake the prayer of a man who had now known anguish for his sins and had confessed them? David clung to the hope that this prayer would not be in vain!
