Day 279 – Psalm 35

“Rescue me from their destructions…” Psalm 35:17b

THE TIME ELEMENT

As human beings, we seem to be very concerned about time. Perhaps our anxiety about time is caused by a number of factors:-

1. The brevity of our life span on earth.

2. The fragility of our life.

3. The dangers that attend life.

4. The worry that it might be “too late”.

Hence David pleaded with the Lord to hear and answer his prayer for justice swiftly.

“Lord, how long will You look on?
Rescue me from their destructions,
My precious life from the lions.
I will give You thanks in the great assembly;
I will praise You among many people.”
Psalm 35:17-18

1. “Lord, how long will You look on?”

a) This is not a rude statement.
b) It simply expresses great anxiety of the heart.

2. “Rescue me from their destructions”

a) His enemies were bent on destroying David.
b) They had planned many traps to hurt him or to kill him.

3. “My precious life from the lions”

a) The enemies were likened to lions.
b) Life was precious indeed and must be treasured.

4. “I will give You thanks… I will praise You”

David anticipated deliverance from God with a promise to praise Him publicly.
