LEARNING FROM OUR MISTAKES

David learned an invaluable lesson from this experience! He knew that he could lose all that he had obtained in life if God were to hide His face from him! His prosperity and his strength would amount to nothing if he did not continue to enjoy God’s favour!

TURNING TO GOD IN HUMBLE PRAYER

Swiftly David turned to the Lord in humble prayer, before things became disastrous.

“I cried out to You, O LORD,
And to the LORD I made supplication.”
Psalm 30:8

1. “I cried out to You, O LORD”

a) This was borne out of necessity.
b) This was something that David had done previously.
c) He knew the way back to God.
d) He would have to return to the Lord in humble prayer.
e) He would have to confess his error
i) Of trusting in himself.
ii) Of taking his eyes off the Lord and focusing on his wealth.
f) He would have to once again learn vital lessons about God’s lordship.
i) He must ever rely on God.
ii) He may enjoy his prosperity and wealth given by the Lord.
iii) But he must not rely on them!

2. “And to the LORD I made supplication”

a) The word “supplication” highlights “humility”.
b) David would have to pray with genuine humility as he returned to God.
c) Repentance is implicit in his crying out to the Lord.
