“Do not gather my soul with sinners” Psalm 26:9

THE CONTEXT REVEALED

What was the context in which David pleaded for vindication. The following text reveals this context.

“Do not gather my soul with sinners,
Nor my life with blood thirsty men,
In whose hand is a sinister scheme,
And whose right hand is full of bribes.”
Psalm 26:9-10

1. The Context of God’s judgment of people

a) God would gather all to His Divine court.
b) In particular God would take firm action against the following:-
i) Sinners
ii) Bloodthirsty men
iii) Sinister schemers
iv) Corrupted people whose “right hand (was) full of bribes”
c) It was God’s prerogative to:
i) Punish the wicked
ii) Vindicate the upright

2. David’s plea of innocence was offered in contrast to the above (Psalm 26:1-8)

a) He walked before the Lord (Psalm 26:3a).
b) He walked in God’s truth (Psalm 26:3b).
c) He had rejected the way of hypocrisy (Psalm 26:4b).
d) He had nothing to do with the wicked (Psalm 26:5).
e) He had always focused on worshipping the Lord (Psalm 26:6).
