“We will rejoice in Your salvation” Psalm 20:5a

WAR BANNERS

War banners were used in the ancient days. These may have been flags that were made to unfurl and fly bravely in the air. The sight of war banners were designed to stir up strong emotions of hope and anticipation of victory.

“We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.”
Psalm 20:5

1. “Your salvation”

a) Salvation is to be read as “deliverance”.
b) The mention of salvation (deliverance) expresses:
i) Hope
ii) Confidence

2. “We will rejoice”

a) This reflects confidence.
b) This reflects anticipation of victory.

3. “We will set up our banners”

a) These were war flags.
b) They were meant to rally all involved in battle.
c) The name of God was invoke in the setting up of banners.

4. “May the LORD fulfill all your petitions”

a) Petition for strength.
b) Petition for victory.
c) Petition for special protection.

“May the LORD…” reminds all of the need for deep humility in prayer!
