"You are My Son" Psalm 2:7b

Text: Psalm 2

PROCLAIMING THE DIVINE DECREE

When a king made a decree in the ancient days, a royal proclamation is made. Criers would be sent throughout the land to proclaim the decree of the king!

We have a Divine Decree proclaimed in the following text. This decree is made even more significant when the Royal Son Himself proclaims the Divine Law.

“I will declare the decree:
The LORD has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.'”

Psalm 2:7

1. “I will declare the decree”

a) This is of great prophetic significance.
b) The Royal Son Himself proclaims the Divine decree.

2. The Content of this Decree

a) “You are My Son”
i) Much more than “sonship” is declared.
ii) A Divine Father-Son Relationship is declared.
b) “Today I have begotten You”
i) This text must indicate to us that a special relationship exists because of the Divine Relationship between Father and Son.
ii) The profundity of this statement is best understood in the light of the New Testament Gospels.

3. The Witness of the New Testament Gospels

a) The Divine Acknowledgment of Jesus at His baptism (The Synoptic Gospel writers were careful to take note of what God declared- Matthew 3:17; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22)

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

Matthew 3:17

b) The apostle John in his Gospel declared that Jesus the Divine Word of God and the Only Begotten Son of God who came from Heaven to teach us who the Father really is (John 1:14, 18).
