Day 126 – Psalm 18

“I will love You, O LORD, my strength.” Psalm 18:1

LOVE FOR GOD

Can we really speak of having a real and deep love for God? The Scriptures do more than teach us to have faith in God. We are challenged to cultivate a relationship of love for God. May our hearts learn how to speak of love for the Lord!

1. In the famous Shema we have these words:-

“Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our God, the LORD is one!
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
Deuteronomy 6:4-5

2. Jesus taught His disciples much about love too.

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you;
abide in My love.
If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love,
just as I have kept My Father’s commandments
and abide in His love.”
John 15:9-10

LOVE OF GOD

God’s love for the children of Israel is unmistakable! The following texts wonderfully illustrate this love.

1. God’s love for Israel

“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God;
the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people
for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples
on the face of the earth.
The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose
because you were more in number than any other people,
for you were the least of all peoples;
but because the LORD loves you and because He would
keep the oath which He swore to your fathers…”
Deuteronomy 7:6-8

2. God’s love for all His children

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us,
that we should be called children of God.”
1 John 3:1
